Karlie Kloss bares all for the first time in print with the December edition of Vogue Italia, lensed by Steven Meisel. If you managed to peel your eyes from that genetically blessed/Amazonian-God-like creature, you too may have noticed Kloss channeling a 90's supermodel spirit styled in a wardrobe of minimal silhouettes and playful accessories.
Combine the success story of Melbourne born fashion label Gorman with typographic artist/superstar Rachel Castle and you get one awesome stocking filler (hint)! High summer 2011/12 has just been upped a notch with the Gorman & Castle collaboration bringing a high colour, tropical flavoured pop of brilliant styling and fun design. The collection features beautiful artwork, bedlinen, home-wear and of course some gorgeous threads. And yup, in case you're left wondering, I'd be nothing less than smitten with a stocking filled with the stuff.
Mondayitis had me zapped. Every last ounce of bounce in me was slammed well and truly to bits. As I sat here, verging on napping at my desk, I was miserably counting down these days to a home-town Xmas break of doing nothing much at all. Until this made its way onto my browser history. The brilliant design works from the word's best studios. Need a time-filler? Check 'em out.
'The Cloud' is the architectural baby by Dutch architects MVRDV for Seoul, Korea. The skyscraper achieves its cloud-likeness with the pixelated cluster joining the two buildings...at the hip. Just one little problem. Does this not frightfully resemble the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks?
As 5 pm creeps in closer by the second I'm prepping my sprinters start to bolt out this door quicker than you can imagine. What a bumper week. I'm ready to get into the swing of the weekend with all things new flooding my gates...if you're wondering...my new little niece arrived into this world yesterday and landed safe and sound into the loving arms of her parents and little brother; my good friend celebrates her first step into the 30's zone with bubbles and laughs this weekend; OH! and a new link of beautiful photography for...you! Have a wonderful weekend, all!
Another one bites the dust! Twenty-eleven is drawing to its grand finale in just a few weeks time. Last December I wrote (to my future self) according to Future Me's instruction and came up with this Resolution Free letter as a light hearted take on "resolution" setting. Entertaining as it may have been, what I didn't expect was that a few words tapped onto a blog would roll out to fill a bumper 12 months! So in response to that letter I say...
2011, you packed in these fantastic count-them-on-one-hand-kinda-friends, moments of gut-aching laughter, of tears and of 'what-the-fritz-am-i-doing'. There were lessons learned, courage gained, patience tested, a reassured faith in all things good, and a beautiful, loving and endlessly supportive family. You saw me greet a $0 bank account and then score a fabbo career opportunity after a year of playing job-hop-scotch, so "hurrah" to that. You relocated me to a new abode and saw me conquer IKEA instructions. You saw me cha-cha my merry way through the year, witnessed a couple of hairstyles plus the sign off of a gym membership to boot - i found the exit from lazy-couch-bum-hibernation! You've seen me kick off my days with green tea in an attempt to stomp the caffeine addiction down and witnessed me eat my way through Melbourne's most wanted breakfasts in town with equally devoted breakfastees.
2011, you tested me. At times I could've kicked the day-lightoutta ya, but we know I love a challenge and OoH how I've loved this challenge!
Ta for the fun and memories, and for the beautiful start you've offered for 2012. All the trials, tests and challenges (met!) of 2011 have laid a solid foundation for what is set to be an incredible year and beyond. With new possibilities, priorities, beautiful friendships, family and a man whose got this girl for keeps, I'm already perching myself up on cloud 9.
It's time. This time a full blown commitment (long / life term) is the goal. Able to enjoy good, fresh, clean food whilst bringing in the waist line and not feeling deprived is the numero uno aim. So (my) day 1.5 of yeClean and Lean is well underway. I must admit, my past attempts of James Duigan's Clean and Lean eating plan have seen less than glowing results - having Elle as the example of his miracle works wasn't all that great for the confidence boost. However, James' latest project has seen him stamp his seal of success on the transformed Queen of Cupcakes' curves, Nigella Lawson. You heard! Now that's inspiration...and believable! When someone can take that volumptuous derriere and transform it to the unimaginable, I don't know how much more proof one could want to know that James' method really works! Here goes...
Christmas is only 3 weeks away... and I've been missing in action...hopeless with blogging as life has recently grabbed me by the...er...baubles, and spun me 'round (all positive) till it dropped me head-on with the most wonderful of X-mas decorations. Safe landing, I reckon. Available in 10 shades, these Pantone glass Christmas Balls by Seletti are quite possibly the best things goin' round!
Hobba is the project from the team behind Malvern's Williams Espresso. With Coffee guru Gerrick Numan, head chef Josh Powell, whose got stints at Vue de Monde, Circa and famed UK eatery Fat Duck under his belt, it's pretty easy to see Hobba is already a few leaps ahead of the pack. This converted garage, understated, under-designed escape into the world of (new) cafe cool will have you needing more. Hands down, this is without doubt the best Breakfast (even deserves a capital B) I have experienced here in Melbourne (if you know one thing, you'll know I'm serious about breakfast). Seems there are a few people who'd agree...be prepared to wait. Line-ups extend out the door and down the road!
My Sunday 13 Nov 9.30am hit its high with a serve of 62.5c egg (egg poached to a translucent white and buttery yolk, as promised), asparagus, myrtleford butter poached salmon, goat’s cheese, pickled celery, apple, peas $21.
Ehhm..shall I add it's 'round the corner from my abode! Yep.
...Lately, time and brain power to tap on the board has been limited so I've resorted to this. Pinning and re-pinning images. Looking at pretty stuff and drifting as I break for 30seconds between jobs. Check it out. Be warned...it's addictive.
..a new blog to link back to? Check. Some effortlessly beautiful styling in Friday's Frock? Check. Equipped at my desk with a good strong coffee? Check. A trip back home (t'moro morning) to be packed with my girlfriend's wedding, a Birthday Brekky (yum), family time and catch-ups with people I love to bits? Check. Seems my w'end is sorted... Hope yours spins out all sorts of fun too!
I mentioned I moved, right? The specs are: I took a hop skip and a JUMP into an apartment directly opposite my previous rental/tiny/studio/box to a gorgeous art-deco one bedroom DREAM. More to be posted on this (pics too)...for now, just trust me when I carry on about how amazing this thing is. On the top floor of a two-storey building housing 6 of us, I get to wake up every day and look right amongst the lush green tree tops that filter the morning sun's rays. Beautiful. Every morning, I take a second and think I'm living in a tree-house...it's picture perfect. Then my alarm rings from snooze and reality sets in to get me out of dreamworld and into work mode...
As I'm slowly making this gorgeous deco space my own, I'm on the hunt in every possible direction for inspiration from those who've done the same. This Melbourne home is where I'm drawing a tonne of inspiration from at the moment. Melbourne designer Lucy Glad-Wright has done it all right...I can hear you agreeing with me!
I am approaching my day with an attitude less-than-chirpy thanks to a very *quick and complete move to my new apartment over the weekend (frills of an IKEA visit and blisters to prove I pieced my furniture together included). More to come about the move over the next few days. Spotting some witty advertising, thankfully, has done wonders for my Monday bluesomes. This downright brilliant ad for Harvey NicholsAccessories Required campaign by Y&R Dubai won the gong at Cannes Lions 2011.
