Eggs for Two

via
If you had to swoon me, seat me in the sunshine where the scent of a fresh coffee weaves itself around our breakfast for two.

Recipe: The Summer Egg

Ingredients 2 eggs
Asparagus, handful
Dandelion greens, handful
Olive oil, drizzle
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste

Method Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Break off the ends of the asparagus stalks, drizzle with olive, and toss with a pinch of salt and pepper. Place on a baking sheet and roast for about 15 minutes, or until tender, but with a slight crunch. While the asparagus is cooking, bring a small pot of salted water to a boil. Place eggs in boiling water for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove from the water, cut off the tops, and serve over lightly dressed dandelion greens. Place one stalk of asparagus in each egg and season to taste.

It's black and white

via
The talent that screams through Lina Arvidsson's lens had me stuck in my tracks when I came across collection after collection of her brilliant photography. I thought this image was by far the best to reflect a little of the giddiness I'm feeling and finding in the things that fill my days. Sometimes all that's needed to plant my feet firmly on this ground and centre every sense of my being is to don the old black and white approach. Finding that simplicity and calm gravitates my energy to the treasures that fuel me - my love, my family, my friends.

Remembering tomorrow

Xavier Encinas via
Last night I had the craziest dream. All of my "tomorrows" of 2011 (you know, dreams, coffee catch ups, plans and nice stuff) flooded my memory. Everything I love(d) was under the spotlight in a madcap, circus-like roadshow. Gets weird. Every face I knew exactly this time last year (the people I'd work with, the ones I'd join in coffee queues, the mag shop owner) starred in the show donning top hats, tutus and attempting some kind of act.

"Remembering Tomorrow" via
Gets weirder. Today, as I'm struggling more than ever to find something all new and original to post, I resort to clicking into my drafts. The one I look to is appropriately titled "remembering tomorrow." This is where the "ooh's and ahhh's" chime in and an unexplainable jumble of crock slots right into a some sense (at least for me).

Rambles aside, I'm not one for digging up the past but if I didn't send myself batty dreaming about last year's "tomorrows," I can't imagine when I would've been pointed back in the direction of Encinas' work (saved in this draft post) to share it with you lovely readers. Check it out. Hope you like it.

In the shadows

via
Sometimes I wish I could slide between the shadows and drift off somewhere where herbal tea and beach-walks would define my hours - this Tuesday morning, where I meet my overflowing email requests of to-do's is no exception. Thanks to Russian photographer Alexey Bednij’s latest project, I can fulfil some kind of shadow-drifting. Bednij's precision and manipulation of contrasted black-and-whites has created a series of visual illusions perfect for a Tuesday morning distraction. See my write up and more of Bendij's ‘collages’ here...

Giampaolo Sgura for Dolce & Gabbana fw12.13

via
It's been a while since a Dolce and Gabbana campaign has hit my browser history, let alone caught my eye. Their style has always been a tad too glammed for my drapey/relaxed style incination. But when Giampaolo Sgura's lense snaps up the likes of Monica Bellucci, Bianca Balti and Bianca Brandolini (yes, all three) donned in d&g's baroque fantasy inspired collection, I'm finding myself screaming praises from rooftops. What's not to love about this campaign? With all those "familiar" (aka normal people) faces about, the campaign seems less posed and more of a backyard, true Sicilan affair.
In fact, this reminds me of what our family gatherings are all about. Loud, dramatic outbursts tangled amongst  the gut-aching laughs, good food and family. This is the strongest campaign I've seen in a while, not to mention the spectacular fall/winter designs. The more I look over the images, the heavier I fall for this shoot. Enjoy x

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

via

Cross the model world's list-topping beauty, Dasha Z with Nikolay Biryukov's lens and you'll get one solid nod to the haunting, classic black and whites of days gone by. Biryukov's talent worked on overdrive for Fashion Gone Rogue's latest exclusive, Mirror Mirror. Dasha put in a solid days work too, sporting a wardrobe of La Perla and Prada threads. My write up and more images are here.

Manmade forecast

via
Neither are these digitally manipulated effects nor white fluffy stuff suspended from the ceiling. Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has managed to work the seemingly impossible and bring these surreal indoor (real) clouds to life. By using smoke, moisture and lighting,  Smilde's ephemeral creations hang about long enough only to photograph their existence. Suspended in the empty, somewhat austere surrounds, Smilde's work presents this fascinating interplay between something beautifully ethereal yet unsettlingly eery. On another note, if you need a second's time-out from Thursday's morning workload, Smilde's work justifies you to a little time spent head-in-the-clouds...

Friday's Frock

via
Dennison Bertram snapped model Dimphy Janse for the Marie Claire India feature shoot "From Paris With Love" sporting the 'classics' of the fashion industry's current trends. Making printed pyjama-esque and floral pants seem like timeless wardrobe essentials, the shoot gives a firm nod to the elegant and feminine direction fashion designers are embracing again.

Here's to a wonderful weekend! I'd be interested to read your thoughts on my new blog format too. After some thinking on whether or not to make the switch to WordPress, I think I'm right sticking to blogger...

Backstage at Marchesa Fall Winter 2012

via
My Melbourne honeymoon is coming to an end...very soon. I don't yet know how quickly I'll have to box 2 years worth of life, but it's coming. Just days away. Without getting caught up in the details though, I'm preferring to sway about in the romance of a move back home to the best things in this world - an incredible bunch of people that know no limits when it comes to the support and love they offer; my family, friends, and boy! Marchesa Fall/Winter 2012, in all its whimsical glory, gives me a hand in stepping down this dreamy lane today. Hope it does wonders as it slides you closer to Friday's 5pm too. Enjoy.

Stella Ad

via

Stella McCartney's Spring/Summer 2012 campaign featured a wowzer of a floral-embrace and supermodel / McCartney's gal-pal Natalia Vodianova to boot! Vodianova did her thing in two of the pieces from the collection; the ink Paisley print shirt and trousers, and the Fitzroy dress with 3-D embroidered edging.

Prop Stylin'

via
This Monday morning was in desperate, desperate need of some sweetenin' when Bam! Robyn Glaser's portfolio found its way onto my browser with these beautifully balanced editorial spreads of her prop styling. This sure gave me something to smile about, not to mention wanting some heavy bangs again. A standout in my eyes was Robyn's Kate Spade editorial, steeling a good few minutes of this morning's lull. Here's to a Monday saver and a sticky beak at some chic accessories!

Black is the New Black

jak & jil blog
Just as I thought I was taming my blogging addiction during work hours, I popped on over to Jak & Jil! Bad Move! On a positive note? I got the heads-up to winter wardrobe essentials. It seems my wardrobe of black basics will need its dry-cleaned threads ready for action when the high winter calls for a blackbone to keep yours truly looking the part. As much as I'm enjoying splashing a hint of colour on my hangers, I just can't shake the love for threads of noir! Call me weird, call me boring, tell me black isn't the answer to the world's slimming secrets. I'm still gonna be cheerin' on for a little reunion with this classic, bold tone of all tones!
p.s. Happy hump day!

Bohemian Rhapsody

via
What would you do if you had a few opened boxes of precious threads for a Queen's private viewing staring back at you, a few wicked pieces which didn't make make their flight to Hollywood and some spare hours on your hands? Can I recommend you follow the lead of photographer Candy Kennedy and her peeps? With a decent sense of humour and a bunch of your own talented crew,  you too could find yourself in fat-kid-'n-cake heaven!  After some heavy persuasion for a loan of the threads, Kennedy's humble abode was quickly transformed into a nightclub-creative-engineering; kitchen became makeup studio, stairs were for styling, TV room for final touches, and lounge room for the big shoot of a Bohemian Rhapsody.
