FLOWmarket is the one-of-a-kind store that recognises our immaterial needs whilst designing each product to make us consumers think a little harder about how we consume, think and live.  Since 2004, Mads Hagstrom (the brains behind the design and creation of these beauties) has managed to get the noggins of consumers across Copenhagen, Zurich, New York, Taipei, Shanghai, Singapore and Seoul working in overdrive. Successfully crossing cultural boundaries, Mads has spread the FLOWmarket word and addressed the imbalance of personal, collective and environmental flows through physical product. Smarty pants.

Black is the New Black

Just as I thought I was taming my blogging addiction during work hours, I popped on over to Jak & Jil! Bad Move! On a positive note? I got the heads-up to winter wardrobe essentials. It seems my wardrobe of black basics will need its dry-cleaned threads ready for action when the high winter calls for a blackbone to keep yours truly looking the part. As much as I'm enjoying splashing a hint of colour on my hangers, I just can't shake the love for threads of noir! Call me weird, call me boring, tell me black isn't the answer to the world's slimming secrets. I'm still gonna be cheerin' on for a little reunion with this classic, bold tone of all tones!

What would you do if you had a few opened boxes of precious threads for a Queen's private viewing staring back at you, a few wicked pieces which didn't make make their flight to Hollywood and some spare hours on your hands? Can I recommend you follow the lead of photographer Candy Kennedy and her peeps? With a decent sense of humour and a bunch of your own talented crew,  you too could find yourself in fat-kid-'n-cake heaven!  After some heavy persuasion for a loan of the threads, Kennedy's humble abode was quickly transformed into a nightclub-creative-engineering; kitchen became makeup studio, stairs were for styling, TV room for final touches, and lounge room for the big shoot of a Bohemian Rhapsody.

99 Things

Over the past 5 years some lucky peeps have been on the receiving end of  graphic design enterprise UnderConstruction's 1-colour, 4 by 9 inch letterpress holiday cards. 2012's card passed on a little less of their usual lighthearted approach and stamped a message more in tune with what these design buffs saw as the theme flooding the zeitgeist. In the words of the creators, "Folks can complain and protest all they want about inequalities, but at the end of the day we each control our outcome by the actions and attitude we take. We can blame others or we can do something the heck about it. Our card has 99 things anyone can do for a better year, from the serious to the silly to the raunchy." Not a bad way to kick what already feels like a super-charged year into gear!
